“Tiny Glimpses”
This project is meant to show that there are cool things everywhere, you just have to take time and look for them. I went on the trail by the college multiple times a week, and just looked for things that looked cool/ beautiful to me.
I have always loved plants. I think they are fascinating and pretty. So I wanted to capture that, and show others how I see stuff. I also love patterns, and I wanted to show those as well. I also needed to do something that I would be able to access by myself. So I chose to do nature stuff because I could just walk to the trail on my own time and get what I needed.
Originally I wanted my photos to be in color when I began editing, because I loved the vibrancy and the sense of “context” that it gave the photos in a way, but I then decided that I wanted to present my photos in black and white because I wanted the focus to be on contrast and textures. I wanted everything to be uniform, and that is why I also chose to have them be square. To me, they look more uniform, and just better overall on the website, as squares.
With every week that passed, I got better at capturing exactly what I wanted. I learned that the time of day played a large part in how nature photography works, and I got pretty good at predicting, when it was going to be a good picture/ lighting day or not. Of course, there were times that I was wrong, and I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.
